Terms of use

These terms cover Kobbie. Using it means you accept them.

Last updated 22 August 2026.

Who you are contracting with

Kobbie is operated by Tom Coumans, based in the Netherlands. When you use Kobbie or buy Kobbie Plus, your agreement is with Tom Coumans, referred to here as “Kobbie”, “we” or “us”. By creating an account or continuing to use the service you accept these terms. If you use Kobbie on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you may bind it; otherwise you confirm you are of legal age in your country.

What Kobbie is

Kobbie reads the library index of a Kobo you own, works out what is on it, puts series in order, helps you replace poor covers and points at the next book. The reading happens in your browser, and your Kobbie account keeps your library and does the organising.

You get a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use Kobbie for your own library, within the plan you are on.

Acceptable use

You must not:

  • use Kobbie unlawfully, or for fraud, spam or abuse of other people;
  • infringe anyone’s intellectual property, including uploading cover art or book data you have no right to use;
  • interfere with the service: malware, probing, rate-limit circumvention, bulk scraping, or reverse engineering;
  • resell, redistribute or share paid access with people outside your household.

Ownership

Kobbie, its software, design, branding and documentation remain the property of Tom Coumans. Your library data stays yours; you give us only the limited licence needed to host and process it so the service can work.

Your device and your books

Kobbie is an independent tool. It is not made by or affiliated with Rakuten Kobo. You are responsible for the books on your device and for having the right to them. Kobbie reads your Kobo read-only, and never changes anything on the device without you approving that specific change first.

Writing covers or metadata back to a Kobo touches your device. Kobbie keeps a backup of everything it replaces for at least 48 hours, but you use device write-back at your own risk, and you should keep your own backups of anything you cannot lose.

Accounts

You need an account to save a library. Keep your sign-in secure, and do not use someone else’s account. You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. Kobbie may suspend an account that is being used to attack, overload or abuse the service.

Free and Kobbie Plus

Scanning and your saved library are free. Kobbie Plus costs $14.99 per year and adds the parts where Kobbie does the digging for you. Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay. Plus renews automatically each year until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time from your account page.

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Payment, billing, tax and cancellation mechanics are governed by Paddle’s Buyer Terms. Refunds are described in our refund policy.

Book information

Book facts come from public and licensed catalogues and are not always right or complete. Kobbie shows where a fact came from and lets you correct it. Release dates, availability and series order can change, and Kobbie does not guarantee them. Links to retailers may earn Kobbie a commission at no extra cost to you.

Kobbie uses automated matching, including AI models, to link messy titles to known works and series. Those results can be wrong, so you can always correct them, and they are not professional advice of any kind.

What Kobbie cannot promise

Kobbie is provided as it is. It may be unavailable, it may make mistakes, and features may change. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free performance, and to the fullest extent the law allows we disclaim implied warranties such as merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

To the extent the law allows, Kobbie is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits or goodwill, or for loss of data you had no other copy of, and our total liability is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury where that cannot be excluded.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end access for material breach of these terms, non-payment, security or fraud risk, or repeated abuse of the service. You can stop using Kobbie at any time and delete your account from your account settings, which removes your library and personal data as described in the privacy notice.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands, and disputes go to the competent courts there, without affecting any consumer rights you have in your own country. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger or acquisition. Neither side is liable for delays caused by events outside its reasonable control.

Changes and contact

These terms may change as Kobbie changes. Material changes will be announced in the app. Questions go through Kobbie support.
